Batman : The Killing Joke

Batman : The Killing Joke  1) What is your reaction to the text you just read? To say, this was the very first time I have ever read any Batman comics in my life. I have watched some of the Marvel movies and very few DC movies but never read the original comic books of them. For DC Comics, I even have not seen the famous DarkKnight(Batman?) series. The only DC comics' movies that I have seen are the Aquaman and Wonder Woman, which came out relatively recently. And that's how I am not familiar with the comics. So it was obvious that I cannot understand the  Batman: The Killing Joke,  well, but I get the point of the comics is very well made. Then, when I researched about the ending which I couldn't understand well, I finally get the reason why Batman has suddenly killed the Joker. To be honest I'm still not sure about it. So what was the reason he choked Joker's neck again? Did Joker make fun of Batman because he thought the Batman is one who already jumped t

Robert Crumb_Whiteman://What I read from class time... To say it directly, I was really shocked by the contents. I did hear it could be a very unpleasant reading experiment and have many sexual contents but I did not expect them to happen so suddenly and so frankly. I read this during the class and I read some more, but all of them are quite the same. they are really violent, or really (so suddenly) sexual. I am not really used to those cartoonic drawing styles besides Disney. So I think maybe my unconscious mind was expecting some of more cute stories within those drawing styles. And I am now doomed... I am sure I could never go back before I read this story now. The story was quite shocking, I mean it is a story. It does not put the main character suddenly a bastard or a sudden bitch attack. (I think?) Other stories, I think I saw a weird male character suddenly did sexual harassment to his girlfriend? I don't remember the title, but. This one does not do that. At least the

Little Nemo in Slumberland

Reading I read Little Nemo from the library and to be honest I haven't read the texts a lot. But I took a careful look with the drawings. The cartoon has a very sensible drawing technique and they were even colored. I am not sure but I think I heard that it is colored using by a three-color printing technique and I saw very few of them are slightly off. So maybe I remembered them correctly. The contents are really a fantasy story and I remember the main character is riding a bed and wandering around a mystic world. And then suddenly woke up from the bed. Actually woke up from the bed is like, really jarring ending in these days. At least in my culture, it is often counted, like almost the worst ending there could be and many people use it as a funny joke in making stories. However, in old time, when people are not used to those ending, I understand the ending should be a rare, unexpecting, and shocking ending to the readers in the time too. So it was interesting. I was reading

Understanding Comics

이미지
Understanding Comics://Comics Simply to say what I felt after reading this book was that I want to introduce this comic to my friends if they are interested in comics or even they aren't, still. This book will be a lot of surprise for us in thoughts of comics and understanding the elements of comics. The book starts with the introduction of the concepts on comics and to describe it with words. I was not interested at the first page, to be honest, I just simply thought this will be a boring dictionary or educational comics which have lots of words that do not help at all. And then I was little more interested when he tried to show some more concepts and put a few gags to get our interests(I suppose it was a gag?) What really caught my attention was after that. He told about the fact we read symbolic or iconic simple pictures as the exact things what they describe. 'The fact that your mind is capable of taking a circle, two dots, and a line and turning them into a face is no

(One who is not popular with drawing but popular in comics and his name sounds like Topherd?)

I liked the drawing, that  A man was bowing, he seems like a very polite person. But actually, he is just bending his back to get his beer form bottle.  (Still working on translations+refining!)

A Harlot's Progress

A Harlot's Progress It is interesting that the translation for the drawing can differ with the way where characters are pointing, or the body balance the character is leaning for. When I did not know what Harlot'meaningng, I thought the character is a mom who is sending her daughter to a boarding school. Because their dress code didn't seem poor, and the old man's face seems really kind to me. I was quite shocked when I knew he is actually not a really good person. And also I thought the stuff in the drawing could be the daughter's movings. So I was really sure about the idea before the class goes on and I get the true idea of what is going on with the drawings. It was hard to predict the drawings without any knowledge on it. I didn't know the man was actually a rapist, and one who's riding a horse is a clergyman. It's all because I don't know about their dress code and culture. I definitely did not know the man is looking for a job, because I re

Une Semaine de Bonte

Une Semaine de Bonte://PIC What I have guessed with reading ‘ Une Semaine de Bonte ’ (This is a very personal opinion without any knowledge on these drawings and background information of the era.) A woman seems to enchanting on the rooster on an egg or maybe she is just surprised because she saw a dead human under stairs, or maybe! She pushed the man and about to run away, then she saw the rooster staring at her and was so surprised. So she is also about to fall down? She is surely dead, or in a deep sleep, coma? and the Rooster’s god is staring down at her. We don’t know what he is thinking but as a context, he is just happy to find a human killed by a rooster or here to punish her? Two rooster’s god(maybe just gods in forms of a rooster) is fighting each other about who is going to take over her soul(?) and the goddess is making decisions between them. The fighting becomes long enough but hasn’t ended, so even the goddess is bored and she is laying on a rock t
